I started my Ph.D from September, 2012. My research focuses on the polysteren beads and their interactions with the surface of nanofiltration membrane(NF 90, NF 270) and biofilm.
In the paper “Understanding particle deposition kinetics on NF membranes: A focus on micro-beads and membrane interactions at different environmental conditions”, I conducted my experiments in flow cell with the nanofiltration membrane attached on the bottom plate. The bead adhesion was studied experimentally and analysed using deposition kinetic model. The surface coverage under permeate conditions was further calculated based on the experiments and model.
Currently I am working on the microrheology , a technique that reveals biofilm mechanical properties by measuring the mean square displacement of the polystyrene beads. This method can provide us with the local properties of biofilm at different height without destroying the biofilm.
